The CCBC is mistaken about the number of Jews who leave Israel bashing

The CCBC (secular Jewish Community Center) published January 5 short article on the growing number of Jews who choose to settle in Israel (19,130 people in 2010 against 16,465 in 2009 and 15,452 in 2008). From the pen of Oury Wesoly, this phenomenon does unfortunately not establish an analysis, but a criticism against "the Jewish right" which he said would "absolutely demonstrate that communities of Europe are fleeing in mass anti-Semitic tsunami that swept its view on the Old Continent. It So actually brandishes percentages impressive in themselves ... ".

And ironically advance the statistics - it is true - impressive percentages - But modest, at first sight, in numbers:

"For example: 30% increase for Switzerland! Crazy, no? Except that these 124 people instead of 94. Similarly for Italy: 25%! (110 against 89 ...) Not to mention a huge 63% for Belgium: 250 emigrants against 152 the previous year. " In concluding

:
"Knowing that the Belgian Judaism revolves around 30,000 souls, we see that at this rate, in less than a century, the Jews of our country have fled the terror room." But

should be added the Jews who left Belgium to settle in United States, Australia, Canada. Is it 250? 500? 1000? Assuming the lowest that would consider leaving for different destinations than 500 Belgian Jews a year, you come to a loss of 5,000 Jews in ten years. This is an impressive number for a population of 30,000. Is it really a specter raised by the right?

Let us remember the excellent (but unfortunately short) story of the RTBF on the departure of Jews from Belgium which we reproduce below the transcript:

"Two hundred Jewish families Belgium have this year decided to leave Belgium to settle in Israel, Australia, Switzerland [United States?, Canada?]. In 2009 they were 100, was two times less. immigration is not surprising that Jewish organizations. They argue the facts of anti-Semitism increased. Some Jews do not feel really safe with us. They often speak of abandonment by the authorities and an unhealthy climate of fear but doubts.

Julie Morel: The move is in preparation. In two weeks this thirtysomething, Liège original settle in Israel. a professional opportunity presented itself. It fell steeply for the Jew who found the climate in Belgium increasingly unhealthy.

Thomas Dratler : "I know it will surprise you, but I feel safer in Israel than in Brussels as a Jew." Dratler Thomas explains, there is nothing paradoxical "The synagogues are the only places of worship which are protected by law enforcement at all times. The Jewish schools are the only religious institutions that are also protected by the security forces. And then, you know, when I was young all Jewish youth movements at the time found themselves at Forest Park to engage in outdoor games, ball games and more. Today it is not possible. Why? Because it certainly should not offend the local population. I talk a lot more easily with Arabs in Israel and Belgium.

Emy Sosnowski will also migrate to Tel Aviv drawn by a retreat in the sun, but mostly desperate by anti-Semitism which she said, rose dangerously. Emy particularly wants to draw our attention to the recent remarks by Frits Bolkestein, former European Commissioner: "He asked the Jews to leave aware - it could be Canada, the United States, Israel. But to leave Holland. A European Commissioner for him to say such things is that there was serious matters. " Emy Sosnowski is the widow of Professor Wybran , assassinated in 1989 by order of Abdelkader Belliraj [1]. Now she refuses to position itself as a victim. It prefers to flee. "My father came out five years in Auschwitz, my mother has been released by a member of the list Schindler, my husband was murdered because he was the representative of Coordinating Committee of Jewish Organizations in Belgium [2]. Sounds a bit much. "

This feeling is it widely shared in the Jewish community? Difficult to estimate. The Center for Equal Opportunity noted in any case an increase in the number of reported acts anti-Semitic. "It increased in 2009 so quite significant and quite disturbing in the conflict in Gaza, so in January, February, March 2009. We can say without doubt that the importation of Israeli-Palestinian releases foul thoughts and throws in some inhibitions and that gives way more easily to anti-Semitic remarks. " [declaration of Edward Delruelle , Deputy Director of the Centre].

In 2010, 200 Jewish families left Belgium, rarely a single reason, will be understood, but anti-Semitism seems to play an important role in these choices. "

[1] Thanks to the Moroccan authorities that twenty years after the man was arrested, tried, and his Islamist network dismantled ( Abdelkader Belliraj sentenced to life , DH).
[2] The current president is the brother of CCOJB Emy Sosnowski, Professor Maurice Sosnowski , who led a delegation of journalists in Israel which led to ridicule from the daily Le Soir ( A Belgian newspaper ridiculed a Jewish community leader ).

A reader this blog has reported that, like the RTBF, the Flemish press also takes seriously these departures: Joden verlaten ons land ( Nieuwsblad).
