Known primarily as the author of the novel The Curious Fate of Wangrin , became a literary classic black African Amadou Ba Hampâté (1900-1991) " was a leading African intellectuals to collect and record and explain the wealth of oral literature, traditional West African . The charm of the tales is no doubt that there's something for everyone: children, always hungry for stories where the righteous will be rewarded and the wicked punished, do not get tired, and adults, given their life experience, are best placed to appreciate the moral of the story. Entertain, educate, inspire reflection, storytelling, described by Hampâté Ba as " message yesterday for tomorrow, today passed through " perform all these functions, hence its timelessness.

In Small Bodiel and other tales from the savannah , you will find a score of tales, mainly from Bambara or Fulani heritage. The first, entitled "Small Bodiel" is the longest and, of course, the richest adventures. It's also one that illustrates the most striking is that the setbacks of life and the need to act wisely and not according to our desires often excessive or simply selfish.

Bodiel Little is a young hare lazy, "Bodiel" actually means "hare" in Fulani. All he knows or likes to do is "yawn, sleep, wake up, eat, digest, pissing and farting, "and also" watch spurs firm breasts and rounded bathers. "(pages 13 and 15). Bodiel When Dad died, Mom Bodiel must fend for their livelihood. Exasperated by the ; laziness of his son, calling her an ultimatum: he manages to help, to save himself SAVIE, otherwise she flings his house and denies same.

Small Bodiel has understood the message he wants to please his mother, a pleasant surprise. But how? He can not rely on his strength, he knows he has none, then He decides to go Allawalam, that is to say, God, to receive his share as much cunning as necessary to overcome all difficulties cheerfully life. This is the beginning of the adventures for Petit Bodiel the beginning of a long climb, too, until he was taken by delusions of grandeur.

That the main characters are animals or humans, all of us to reflect on human nature, we warn against appearances. Among the themes, the couple occupies an important place. You know, for example by reading this book " why the good man is often the husband a woman without merit and brave woman married to a bum "(p. 131)

And this inspires you?

" For the Man, woman is a bottomless pit ... For the woman, the man is a barrel that is lost in the clouds ... They can never reach the limit of one another. They are like two puzzles that look, talk and complement each other, without ceasing to challenge. They can not live without each other but can not live together smoothly or splinters. With the woman does not work, but without the woman, everything would be screwed! " (p. 15)

This Bodiel Petit is a real little treat, he will delight young and old. Thank you to Kinzy for suggesting this reading.
